BIO
Marisol Martinez’s transformation from Media Executive to visual artist is as vibrant as the colors she employs in her art. Previously, Martinez made her mark in the world of Video, Television & Music. She is now finding her pulse as a visual artist whose use of color reflects a complicated, exuberant life.
Marisol is a painter who contrasts both thru color and subject matter, often spatial as well as prismatic. The unguided stillness of each shape is a meditative process individually created to compliment the other. The interconnection of shapes and colors offer insight into Martinez unique experience of the world creating a visually spiritual vocabulary. She confronts the curious, the heartbreaking and the maddening experiences of living life so close to death. Daughter of a funeral director, Martinez was raised in a life defined by death. This familial legacy has allowed Martinez to tap into a spirituality that’s become the mystical centerpiece of her work.
Currently, Martinez lives in NYC and has lived and studied in Paris, Miami and Los Angeles. Her works emerge from mornings spent at the funeral home, and afternoons and evenings spent in the studio—and their constant mingling of presences. Broader inspiration follows a family lineage of women whose creativity encouraged Martinez to express herself visually.
She earned her BBA in Design Marketing/Art from Parsons School of Design/The New School, having attended both New York and Paris campuses.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the human experience through a personalized visual language that engages with unconscious patterns shaping our lives. Central to this exploration is the interplay of color, skin tones, and geometric abstraction, which speaks to identity, community, and emotion. By using abstraction, I aim to strip away the visible world and focus on the emotional and psychological patterns beneath the surface, capturing the essence of life's contradictions and nuances.
Each piece is a reflection on the fluidity of existence, illustrating the ebb and flow of joy, sorrow, and human connection. Through color, shape, and texture, I invite viewers into a shared moment of reflection, transcending words to evoke a visceral response about the human condition. My art serves as a dialogue about life, identity, and the connections that bind us all.
